Popat

from £30.00

In this delicate pencil sketch, Tailor reimagines the grace of Indian miniature paintings through his lens. At the heart of the composition stands his nayika.  Her gaze tenderly fixed upon a popat perched lightly upon her hand. The moment he becomes both her confidant and mirror, capturing the quiet poetry of her solitude.

A short, intricately detailed choli is paired with an embroidered ghagra that seems to shimmer even in the absence of colour. Her dupatta, fluttering in a gentle breeze, is caught between her fingers animating the sketch with movement. The artist’s pencil renders every thread, every fold, with reverence, invoking the tactile richness of silk and zari.

An emblem of timeless femininity as her jewels shimmer catching your gaze. A nath gently curving over her lips, chandbalis that cradle her face, her arms a melody of bangles and armbands, layers of necklaces cascading across her chest and yet beneath the ornament, there is quiet stillness that draws you closer… into the secret world between the Saheli and her parrot.

The artist revives the spirit of Indian miniature painting, where every gesture holds a story. The work lingers in stillness, beauty and longing.  You are left in a moment as though we have stumbled upon a private moment of communion between woman and nature.
